DBR & THE MISSION presents 24 BITS: HIP HOP STUDIES AND ETUDES, BOOK 1

Yo, if you happen to be in NY this weekend you go to the Chelsa Art Museum and check out my man (Dr.) Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR). I had chance to see him a few years back when he did a residency at the Kennedy Center and did a free unadvertised show and jam session at the Warehouse Theater on 7th Street. He mixes funk, rock, hip-hop and classical music to create some good creative, fresh music.
DBR will be here (in DC) in November (Nov 17 - 19, 2005) with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company at the Kennedy Center, so look out for that too!

DBR brings his critically acclaimed band, DBR & THE MISSION, to the Chelsea Art Museum on Saturday, October 8, 2005, at 8 pm. Presented by the Project Room @ Chelsea Art Museum, this special evening will feature the performances of DBR's 24 Bits: Hip-Hop Studies and Etudes, Book I; a lively program of small intimate, musical vignettes (one in each key) that explain, examine, and express aspects of hip-hop music, from rhythm to timbre to form.
He will be joined by the members of DBR & THE MISSION including Wynne Bennett (keyboard/piano), DJ Scientific (turntables), Kenny Grohowski (percussion), Earl Maneein (violin), Brett O'Mara (violin), Jessie Reagen (cello), Tara Thomas (vocals), and Jon Weber (viola).
24 Bits: Hip-Hop Studies and Etudes were recently highlighted at the group's sold out performance at Joe's Pub---according to the New York Times, "true to form, these vary greatly in style, from slow, introspective Neo-Classical ruminations to rhythmically complicated, riffy pieces that would not be out of place in a dance club." Founded in 2002 by Daniel Bernard Roumain, DBR & THE MISSION is comprised of nine young, multi-cultural musicians from diverse musical backgrounds. From a sold out performance with Philip Glass at Arizona's Gammage Auditorium, to the alternative and experimental shows at New York City's downtown Bowery Poetry Club, DBR & THE MISSION presents genre-jumping contemporary music that capture varying audiences nationwide.
THE PROJECT ROOM is a special projects and education program, initiated in 2003 at Chelsea Art Museum by producer/curator, Nina Colosi. Aimed at museum visitors, students and professionals, the program showcases new concepts in all art mediums and their intersection through technology. Over 150 international emerging and established artists have been presented in exhibitions, art talks, performing arts, symposiums, 'introductions: Meet-the-artist' educational workshops, resident new music ensembles, and the New Art Lab where artists come together to create new works.
