also do you think it was positive when Malcolm would abandon his family in order to be on the road disseminating the NOI's philosophy.again he never cheated on his wife like – a la Martin Luther - but one could argue that the NOI became his surrogate wife which was the only time – as memorialized by Alex Haley in the book – that Malcolm and his wife argued…he became obsessed with the NOI and forgot about his obligations to his wife…and his children…one could argue that his ego was the culprit…this is another example of how although he had good intentions, his character and means of achieving those goals were flawed and reflected in his character…being the son of a Reverenced with similar ambition as Malcolm, I have a back stage pass to that scenario…now he never came out right and said: Betty I rather be on the road than with you…but his actions implied that…

You people…gee wiz man…the crux of this so called debate is not even limited to celluloid, Malcolm, or the two entertainers who spawned the discussion, yet the fact that as a people we must begin to deconstruct the myths that our leader's philosophies (as opposed to personal lives) were - and are - at times inherently flawed…especially if they marginalized another group to accelerate their own agenda…again there were numerous occasions where the NOI manipulated Malcolm in order to teach a method of black liberation that derailed the progress that so called “house niggas” had accomplished…you remember that scene right…any black man that calls another black man “house nigga” is up for scrutiny…whether you want to battle with semantics or exercise deduced reasoning is on you…reminds me of when I first told my grandmother that Jesus was a black man…she answered: where in the bible does he say he was black?…my answer was: well HE never said it but there are historical references and scriptures that support that fact…finally i thought to myself: well if my grandmother wants her Jesus to be white then so be it…as long as her faith in God is unbreakable…

DP: man, i'm typing half of this stuff with a smile. i think if dude actually knew me, he wouldn't take half of it the way he's taking it. i love black people, folk. even a debate ain't nothing but conversation to me.

debate is good.
this malcolm talk is not crabs, it is "i'm right/no, i'm right" debate.
no problem- jousting is cool
congrats kokayi
dirty water- cee brown's jont stays in the changer like a suede shoe connectin' with that a$$.
and AP, i wasn't confused as to whether you were referring to film or real life. the original statement was about 100% positive characters being "boring", and i just wanted to clarify the "making 100% out of 80% of 'movie malcolm'" part of your point. but i do know what you mean and i agree that it is possible for 100% positive characters to be not boring. pootie tang for example- sa da tay.

kiz: thanks for leaving the building, if that's what you planned on bringing into the building. and you never proved me wrong about anything. i said 'that doesn't sound like the ice cube i know' (it doesn't) and i asked for a source, you provided it, then i ridiculed the content of quote from the source in question. besides the fact that the source is second hand hearsay from jamie foxx (who could be misquoting ice cube for all i know), nowhere did you 'prove me wrong' about anything. how are you going to prove 'wrong' a subjective phrase like 'that doesn't sound like the ice cube i know'? LOL. what, were you going prove that it does sound like the ice cube i know? LOL. you're hilarious. i love this place.
i love how you turned my quote 'I'll never run from anything in my life' to 'I never back down from anything'. I guess you make a hobby of inserting words in people's mouths. but me saying that a phrase was a metaphor (which it obviously was) is putting words in someone's mouth in your rather curious subjective view of the world? wow.
LOL @ all this talk about the 'energy' people get from my words. it sounds like someone is overly sensitive.

spirit i could present the information that you requested.really.i actually already have it prepared .for as you might not know, i don’t debate or present information unless i have factiods to support said assertion.but then i reviewed how this all started.me proving you ass wrong about the ice cube quote and you not even admitting that you were wrong.instead reflecting your energy to the fact that jamie fox and the journalist interviewing him were both idiots for not having your opinion.i believe that is what kara is pointing out.that it's not your opinion, it's the manner by which you convey it that is at best childish.i assume that you never back down from anything because people eventually consider your analysis and perspective moot.as do i.good luck with your thesis.it's so fresh!.oh and fyi: stating that Malcolm used a metaphor is figurative language therefore i believe that you are the one putting words in his mouth for he never said EXACTLY what you posted…trivial isn’t it?.(kizi has left the building)

Kara: your attempt at 'peacemaking' was undermined by you using the visual imagery of me "running in a corner" (FYI: I'll never run from anything in my life); the only verbal jab-thrower i see in here is you.
Kiz, I see you never found an actual scene in the film to back up your 'point of view' that the cinematic depiction of malcolm included negativity, so I guess you will indeed leave me with my "thesis". FYI, until you can supply an actual quote from Malcolm indicating that he regretted making the JFK comment, I wouldn't put any words in the brother's mouth (RIU).
i'll see everybody at the slum show tonight at mirrors.

again it's not a debate spirit.it's my point of view.and i do remember saying that it depends on your perpsective on the term '100 Percent Positive" .one that you appear to be able to manipulate to uphold your agenda.but you keep on thinking that.oh and um when Malcolm was silenced for saying that comment regarding Kennedy, he did regret it.in fact when the Honerable told him that he would be silenced.he apologized to him and took his punishment.and later in the film when he took the stand after returning from Mecca, he recalibrated his stance on black empowerment to a world forum.after praying with whites in Mecca - that would offer a regret in his energy that he spent regergitating the NOI philosophy without having traveled outside the country to Mecca to observe true brotherly love.but again.this is your thesis so I will allow you to have it.

It appears that in various attempts Spirit has found herself in some realm of debate and verbal jabs, then runs to a corner yelling people are not reading my words in true form, I am wondering why this site is still used as a means of communication when one feels they know more than all, Please take your soapbox somewhere else.

no jabs or posturing, i was asking you to name a scene in a film, not make some vague observation about malcolm as a person. dp already mistakenly thought i was referring to malcolm the real life individual, not malcolm as portrayed in the spike lee film, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to consider the possibility that you might hvae made the same error.
when you came in talking about malcolm's exhortation of NOI philosophy, that further made me think you weren't referring to the film, because 'x' is surprisingly light on scenes where malcolm explains NOI teachings. when you mention malcolm expressing regret about his JFK comments, i wonder if you're not very refreshed on the film as well, because there is no part in the FILM where malcolm expresses regret about the JFK comment (personally, I can't even recall a REAL LIFE instance of malcolm expressing regret for the JFK comment, please remind me of where i can locate that recanting).
also, i fail to see your logic regarding how that the JFK statement in the film can be perceived as 'negative', it's a metaphoric re-telling of the classic 'what goes around, comes around' cliche; a political observation that the violence JFK created abroad through executive policy came back, in a karmic way, to lead to his own violent end. how would saying that make someone a 'negative' character, in any ordinary cinematic understanding of protagonist, antagonist and anti-hero? you've got to be able to debate better than that, boss. sure, everyone can have differing viewpoints, but i have enough faith in my people that they would be able to back up their viewpoint with a semi-convincing argument. love is love though, we'll agree to disagree.

kiz is da light.
why do you keep asking if headz watched the film?.are you serious.or do you think that if one watched the film that they would HAVE to agree with you 100%.wow spirit. who on this board has not.and in the film i do believe that he said things in his rhetoric that he lived to regret.for example the “chickens coming home to roost".that statement alone shows a man conflicted with humanity v. his own agenda or one pronounced by NOI.i guess it again depends on your definition of positive.and you mentioned – of course after the 30 minute window of time that you refer to as a stipulation – 100 % POSITIVE…it is for that reason that your statement is up for debate…choose your words better…when you attempt to support absolutisms you must have all your facts in place… and let's keep this board 100 positive without all the jabs and posturing.we can agree to disagree…

The Truth Returns
Malcolm was all the way live. Positive to the core. Even when he was less than that, the totality of man has contradictions. That still made his overall existence positive! 100%, all the way Live. the truth has been revealed.

kiz, i'm talking about the FILM 'x'. have you seen the film 'x'? give me a scene in the FILM 'x' where denzel washington's characterization of malcolm, post-30 minutes into the film, could not be described as a positive character. i don't know why i bother to use specific language, people don't even read it and start debating things i'm not even talking about. i'm not talking about how you can interpret malcolm's recitations of NOI philosophy, I'm talking about a character in a film, the last 2 1/2 hours of a film, specifically. this is barely worth debating about and even less so when people can't come up with specific scenes in the film to debate (again, after the detroit red part of the film, which now that i reflect, might have gone up to around the first 45 minutes).
