DISSIDENT DISPLAY GALLEY OPENING
www.dissidentdisplay.com/blog
Hello "dissidents" worldwide... as we hope is evident from this blog we are growing here at Dissident Display. We have acquired 3 interns to assist us with upcoming projects. One of these projects is the exciting opening of our new gallery space. Dissident Gallery (www.dissidentdisplay.com/gallery) is located at 416 H St. On the 20th of October we have the pleasure of presenting Valentina Loi, Piero Passacantando and Steve Frost. We are also developing a body of video work dealing with "color theory". We hope you would grace us with your presence in celebrating our gallery opening and myriad of creative projects. -regards //ayo
Greetings art enthusiasts and trend setters! We are in the final days of preparing for our exciting gallery opening. Each of the 3 artists has been hand selected to show in our space based on their unique style and perspectives. Mediums include painting, drawing, installation, video and fabric on canvas. Very exciting stuff! So come support the new art movement on H street beginning this friday Oct 20. Donations are accepted as well to help the cause. There will be a special DJ set by yours truly helping to set the vibe for the night.
See you soon - cheers Adrian

Tonight (10/14) at 10pm there will be a protest in front of Sesto Senso at 1214 18th street nw. Both the Guerilla Lounge and Asheru are calling all artists, activists and affiliated and interested parties to join in this protest against the policies of that establishment. Asheru was to have hosted a segment of his Guerilla Lounge there this evening, but once the owners were made aware of those throwing the event they implied that "we were not their type of clientele", without any knowledge or understanding of the socioeconimic status and racial lines that the Guerilla Lounge crosses, the owners opted to cancel the evening events based on their preconceived and biased notions in re: to the party that had been booked a month in advance. So with that being said Ashheru is taking it their home and asking that we join as a united voice against those that hold these views. Also if you cannot make it please alert the media by phoning local news stations and newpapers. Fox 5 202.895.3000, abc 7 202.222.7777, cbs 9 202.457.4321, nbc 4 202.885.4200. Also phone Sesto Senso and express your feelings their number is 202.785.9525. Cut and paste this and get the message out. One.

***GUERILLA LOUNGE HAS NOW MOVED TO MIRRORS!!!***
Howard University Homecoming Weekend 2006!!
SORRY FOLKS, but unfortunately SESTO SENSO has intimated that they do not want "our clientele" at their establishment. After the initial shock and disbelief that behaviors and opinions such as these still persist in 2006, we had to bounce back in true GUERILLA fashion and at moments notice take the LOUNGE to MIRRORS instead.
(we'll deal with those SESTO cats later; stay tuned for the details and how you can get involved...)
So we're still on, and we have an extra surprise --
DJ BIZ MARKIE IS IN THE HOUSE!!
That's right, we have Biz AND DJ L.E.S. rocking throughout the night, and of course we still have our live performances by:
Mojoe (Music World recording artists out of TX,
New album, classic.ghetto.soul IN STORES NOW!)
Dirty Water (DC's dynamic duo of Hip Hop)
Tabi Bonney - performing hit single, 'In the Pocket"
Hosted by ADIMU of WPGC 95.5 and ASHERU
Sounds provided by BIZ MARKIE & DJ L.E.S.!!!
(Producer and DJ for Nas)
Where: MIRRORS (33 New York Avenue, NE)
When: Saturday October 14, 2006
Cost: $15 WITH EVITE PRINTOUT!
Ages: 21+
***PARKING IS NOW AVAILABLE AT THE NEW LOT ACROSS THE STREET!***
Guerilla Lounge is extremely proud to announce our new non-profit
organization, Project NOMMO, and our global literacy campaign, LIFE:
Literacy Is For Everyone. We will be accepting donations, and unveiling new
covers of H.E.L.P., in stores November 1st ! We need you ALL to come on
out & support L.I.F.E.!!!

Yo Crying Fan - I co-wrote and co-produced that Malene track (along with Mikuak Rai, aka Matthew Payne), so I'm glad you feel it! It's got probably my favorite guitar solo that I've ever tracked. I have the rough mix, which I think is the same as the one that was on that EP. I can hit you up as long as I check with Malene and she says it's kosher. Glad you dig the cut! Peace

I checked Omar's new album (import). It is HOT! Can't wait to see him live. I like the song with Stevie Wonder the best. It would be incredible and historical if he showed up. Regardless, she yall there. One love.

With 28 total years under their belts, The Soul Controllers and Urban Intalek Studios have become indisputable pillars of Washington's urban music scene and long time partners. On Friday, September 15th they'll be celebrating their 15th and 13th anniversaries respectively. The throwdown will feature all of the active Soul Controller DJ's plus DJ D'Salaam of Urban Intalek handling selector duties. The event also marks the return of the free form "jukebox show", where the audience gets to determine the content of a show performed by an all-star group of some of Washington's best verbalists and vocalists. Confirmed performers include internationally feted lyricist Kokayi of Opus Akoben, triple threat renaissance man W. Ellington Felton, super crew SPP Waxworks (Storm the unpredicatable, Priest da Nomad, POEM-CEES) and soul crooner Bilal Salaam and Head-Roc.
